Reading
How does Solaread decide which words to translate?
A vocabulary check estimates your level. Solaread uses that level to predict unfamiliar words and prepare explanations before you reach them, while keeping help lighter on words you know.
Save missed words or mark familiar ones as “I know this” to refine later predictions. Predictions can be wrong; manual lookup remains available.
What is the vocabulary test like?
One word at a time with its meaning, and two answers: Don't know or Know it. The general block is 20 words; each professional field you add is 8 more. The general test takes about 2 minutes. You can refine your level any time from Settings.
What is the difference between inline and interlinear translation?
They come from different places. Inline glosses are the model's predictions: a short translation in parentheses right after a word it thinks you do not know. Interlinear glosses sit underneath the line and belong to the words you saved yourself, so they stay visible whenever you reread the passage. Both are inserted with a smooth animation.
Why are the translations inside the line instead of in a side panel?
Because looking away is what breaks reading. With a side panel, your eyes leave the sentence to find the translation, then have to find their place in the text again. For non-native readers, finding the exact spot can be difficult, so that round trip can make them lose track of where they were reading. Solaread puts a short gloss in parentheses right after the word, so your eyes stay on the line you are reading. The gloss is styled to stay in the background, so it helps without pulling attention from the text.
Do I have to tap or click each word I do not know?
No. When you open a book, the words Solaread predicts you do not know already have a short translation after them. You only click when you want more: hover a translation for an explanation in context, or double-click a word the model missed.
How is Solaread different from full-page translation?
Full-page translation gives you the whole text in your own language, which is fast for getting the gist. Solaread leaves the original text as it is and translates only the words you probably do not know, so you are still reading the author's own sentences. It is for people who want to read the original, not a translation of it.
What if the model misses a word I do not know?
Double-click the word, or select even one letter of it, and the popover appears with the translation. From there you can add it to your word list, which inserts an interlinear gloss on the spot. That choice is also feedback: the model learns from it, and gets better at predicting what you need.
Where are saved words, and how do I review them?
Saved words go to your vocabulary list with the sentence where you found them. Collect words from reading and listening, then review them in context.
Words saved while reading link back to their place in the book and keep an interlinear gloss. Review feedback and marking a word as known help refine later predictions.

Getting started
What is Solaread?
Solaread is a language learning platform. Read books and articles, listen to podcasts and audio, and watch videos you care about, with unfamiliar-word help prepared for your level.
Reading and listening are available in the web app. Bring your own content, check difficulty and recommendations, save vocabulary, and review words in their original sentences. Podcasts can be searched for.
Talking with an AI language teacher about what you have read, heard or watched is coming soon and is not available yet.
Who makes Solaread, and where is the official site?
Solaread is made by Suwen Works Inc. The official site is solaread.com, the reader runs at app.solaread.com, and the Chrome extension is listed in the Chrome Web Store as "Solaread". Solaread is a reader for books, papers and articles in a second language; it is not a document translator, and it is not affiliated with other products that have similar names.
What can I read or listen to?
Reading supports EPUB, TXT, PDF and PowerPoint slides. PDF import requires Scholar Plus or Scholar Pro. Scanned pages are recognized as text; compare complex layouts with the original pages.
The Chrome extension is available. The Mac download and web app can differ; use the web app for the latest listening features.
Which source and explanation languages are supported?
Automatic word marking in the web reader currently supports English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. Other source languages can still use manual lookup and selected-text translation. This reading list is not a list of transcription languages; use the language choices shown during audio or video import.
The Mac download does not yet automatically mark Spanish, German, Portuguese or Russian. Features depend on the version on each platform.
English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Vietnamese, Spanish and Portuguese are one click away in Settings. These are shortcuts; other explanation languages are searchable. Interface, source and explanation languages are separate choices.
How do I get the Chrome extension?
Install Solaread from the Chrome Web Store. The listing shows the current version, permissions and installation button.
You can start reading, listening and reviewing vocabulary in the web app without the extension.
